Office hours and Incompletes
Sorry to spam you during your busiest time of the academic year, but two items that I thought were important.
1. Office hours
I’m not holding regular office hours (online or off) this week. However, if you would like to meet with me on Thursday afternoon, sometime after our faculty meetings ends (around 2:45), please drop me a note. I’d prefer not to be in super-late, since I have to be back up in the morning, but I’ll work with your schedule.
I will also be sitting and waiting at Montesi Volkswagen from 8am until at least 11am, maybe longer. You are welcome to drop by–they have free wireless. I’ll be either there or at school until early afternoon, when I have to go through a meeting for grad commencement marshals.
I can also set up a time to chat via phone or skype.
2. Incompletes
The syllabus states clearly that no incompletes will be granted. A student has had a catastrophic failure of his computer and requested an incomplete. In order to be fair, I will only offer that student what I offer all students, and so here it is:
If you have a passing grade on work from modules 1-6 by the deadline this weekend, and if you email me requesting an incomplete in the course, I will allow you one additional week to complete module 7. Note that you *must* have passing grades on modules 1-6–that is, your grade points much be close enough to passing that a complete module seven will not be moot. Note also that I won’t automatically give you an incomplete if you don’t turn in module seven. You have to email me indicating that you wish to have an incomplete.
In order to be fair, and so that I do not need to be an arbiter of your reasons, the incomplete will be granted on demand, assuming you meet the above conditions. I know that in the class, there is at least one student with a serious injury, several in financial distress, and at least one with family issues. I don’t need to know why you were unable to complete the seventh module, just that you want the incomplete. Naturally, there will not me an extension beyond the extra week.
Also, please be aware that I will not be particularly available to help during the extra week. I’ll do what I can, but my time is already promised (and paid for) for another project.
